4 pages, 255 x 190 mm. browned and a little chipped. On July 8th, 1889, a few thousand spectators who had assembled in secret, saw the last great bare knuckle fight to be fought in the United States, between John L. Sullivan, the first modern heavyweight champion, and the challenger, Irishman Jake Kilrain. It finished with a victory for Sullivan after a gruelling 75 rounds. This rare survival printed a few days after the fight, shows a woodcut of the protagonists on the first page, an account of the fight, plus two celebratory poems. No copy traced worldwide.
