4to. pp. [6], 23; frontispiece portrait, 44 plates [some coloured, one folding]. Two colour cloth, some light foxing, Very Good. Loosely inserted are 3 sheets of pencil sketches by Harris, one captioned “Original sketch by George Harris for Sandon Cabaret.” Number 158 of 425 copies ptinted. George W. Harris [1879 - 1929] was a theatre and costume designer who studied at Liverpool under Augustus John, with whom he was a favourite pupil. He became a prominent figure in the group of artists which formed the Sandon Studios Society of Liverpool in 1907, which, among other things, produced regular cabarets in the pre-world war one period. Based at Bluecoat, the society prepared the groundwork for the Bluecoat to become one of the earliest arts centres in the country; the Sandon Society lasted until the 1980s.
