Watercolour portrait, 290 x 230 mm. signed twice in ink. This may be from 1937 when Peake was invited to accompany his then fiancée, Maeve Gilmore [later wife], on a European tour with Maeve’e mother and sister. He constantly drew and sketched during the tour. This was possibly a Hungarian girl and may be in Budapest since it was found glued to the back of another portrait identified as in Budapest. From the estate of Gordon Smith, Peake’s best friend since his schooldays.
