Autograph Letter, signed. With Printed Portrait.

Autograph letter, signed, 135 x 95 mm. together with portrait from Arnold’s Magazine, 1834. William Etty [1787 - 1849], English painter, writes “My Dear Rebecca, Your kind attention and that of your incomparable Mother I duly appreciated however a variety of matters press on me today and will prevent me until tomorrow Friday from coming. Truly yours Wm Etty.” Born in York, he moved to London in 1805, where he lived for most of his adult life, latterly at 14 Buckingham Street [at the head of this letter, which is then corrected], then moving back to his home city of York in 1848, to 43 Gillygate, where he died in 1849.
