1st Edition. Small square 8vo. pp. 5, 17 plates. Covers repaired with matching paper, the design by Enid Marx. Presentation copy inscribed by Mark Gertler to his future mother in law Mrs Hodgkinson, June 1930. Gertler married Marjorie Greatorex Hodgkinson in 1930. It was not a happy marriage with frequent bouts of ill health of both, though it did lead to the birth of their son, Luke Gertler. Suffering from financial problems, depression after a derided exhibition, the death of his mother and the desertion of his wife, Gertler gassed himself in his studio in 1939.
