Broadside, 530 x 425 mm. Joseph Servan [1741 - 1808] was appointed Minister for War by the Gorondists and served briefly in May and June 1792. One of his proposals was the recruitment of armed citizen-soldiers from the provinces [fédérés] to attend the celebrations in Paris for the anniversary of the fall of the Bastille. The King vetoed the proposal and sacked the Girondin administration. Thousands turned up regardless which led to the storming of the Tuilleries on 10th August and the reappointment of Servan to the Ministry. He also had the eighth verse of The Marseillaise deleted claiming that its religious references undermined the French Republic.
