Broadside, 520 x 400 mm. bottom corner torn away with loss. Even after Napoleon’s final defeat at Waterloo in June 1815 and the return of the monarchy many in France retained anti-Royalist sympathies which were punished if expressed publicly. Military tribunals were responsible for punishments; here all were sentenced to terms in jail bound in chains, the most severe being a one year sentences for having shouted “vive l’Empereur et le Roi d’Italie!” and for refusing to remove the “cocarde tricolore.” 500 copies of this notice were ordered printed and posted in Lyon and in the communes of the department.
