Richard Cockle Lucas (1800 – 83) was primarily a sculptor, but also an etcher, photographer and creator of some of the earliest ‘artistic’ nature prints. A collection of etchings and aquatints. The images here were almost certainly produced for the artist’s own use, perhaps for inclusion in one of his curious and eccentric scrap books which contain a mixture of etchings, photographs, original drawings and experimental nature printing. All the etchings seem to be uncommon and it is possible that some of these are unique survivals printed on very flimsy India paper or similar. A Prospect from the Top of the Observatory at Chilworth.
