Although the outbreak of cholera which started in 1832 had yet to reach these parishes, concerned householders, ratepayers and other parishioners applied to the Privy Council to enable them to constitute a board of health which would empower them to assess landowners and tenants for raising a levy to establish a board. It is signed by 17 local men including the Ministers of the local churches including Boleskine & Abertarff and Fort Augustus, 2 local surgeons and the lieutenant and barrack master of Fort Augustus.
