The business started in 1860, and their exhibits, ranging from a stuffed black swan to a wallaby fur muff, were prized not only for the skill displayed, but also for the ingenious adaptation of the taxidermist's art to Australia's fauna. They won 20 gold medals over 40 years. They also specialised in selling photographs of Australian Aborigines and South Sea Islanders taken during the latter part of the 19th Century, “before civilization began to spoil the native races of these parts.” “We have the greatest and most complete collection of genuine Australian and Island Curios. collected during the last 60 years. spears, spear heads, womerals, shields, clubs, nulla nullas, stone tomahawks, stone axe heads, glass and stone knives, coolamons, digging sticks, fire sticks, girdles, necklets, forehead bands, bullroarers,.”
