With letterpress preface leaf. Egerton’s entertaining satirical work on the many stages of marriage - 'Admiration', 'Flirtation', 'Agitation', 'Possession', 'Rumination', 'Detestation', etc., - each with a humorous engraved quatrain beneath the image. No other copies traced with the letterpress preface. An elderly gentleman had a casual sight of the plates before actual publication; he appeared much amused, and after laughing heartily at the whimsical fancy displayed, said -”Well, if a son or daughter of mine were about to enter into the state here delineated, this little book should be a present from their old father on the marriage day. Sir, it would have more sensible effect, than fifty lectures on the subject of propriety of conduct.”
