He wrote many popular stories and poems and later served as a diplomat in Europe. With 33 engraved illustrations by unstated artist(s). --- In full light brown cloth-covered boards with titling and decorations to covers and spine in black and gilt. --- Loosened hinges have been carefully reinforced prior to this listing, and with prior owner's signature to front paste-down, along with some small tears to gutter areas of first few leaves and dampstains to edges of many pages.
