First published in 1807, the story takes the form of a tour through Italy. The influential author was a witness to events of the French Revolution and later opposed Napoleon, causing her to seek exile in Germany and elsewhere. --- An attractive copy in red cloth-covered boards backed in red leather, with decorations in blind to covers, titling and decorations in gilt in six spine compartments and attractive brown/violet/red/yellow marbled endpapers. All edges gilt, with sewn-in green cloth ribbon bookmark.
