Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (1622-1673), who wrote under his theatrical name Molire, used these plays to skewer French society of his day. Translated from the French by H. Baker and J. Miller, and with an introduction by Frederick C. Green. Number 830 in Everyman's Library "Poetry and the Drama" series. --- In Everyman's Library binding style 3 in full green cloth and gilt-stamped spine titling; blindstamped Eric Ravilious-designed 'shell' to cover and brown topstain. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- A sound copy, though with endpaper sticker, whitish mottled discoloration to front panel, brown dampstain to back panel and at least one penciling, otherwise tightly-bound and intact.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xix, 427 pages
