An attractive Heritage Press edition in slipcase presenting Anatole France's 1912 novel, which is set amidst the French Revolution in Paris in 1793-1794. Rendered into English from the French by Alfred Allinson. Also with illustrations by Jean Oberl and an introduction by Andr Maurois. Sandglass leaflet laid in (New York, no. VI: 21). --- In fleurs-de-lis decorated cloth-covered boards backed in red cloth, with gilt-stamped spine titling and pale orange topstain. 1942 date appears in book, but possibly published c.1960s-70s. Slipcase covered in tan paper. --- An unmarked, tightly-bound and bright copy but with mild sunning to spine.
