A two-volume autobiography of Samuel Clemons (1835-1910), the American author who published his works under his famous Mark Twain pseudonym. With two sepia-toned frontis photographic portraits of Clemons, one of which shows him in bed in his New York City home. Includes an introduction by Albert Bigelow Paine. Each volume with an index at back of book. --- In ribbed navy cloth-covered boards with Twain facsimile signatures in gilt to covers, spines with gilt-stamped spine titling; TEG (top edges gilt). Volumes lack dust jackets. --- A well-preserved set: bright and tightly-bound, but with some discoloration to cloth and with a couple of conspicuous bumps to lower cover corners.
