A deluxe, signed leatherbound Franklin Library edition of Erskine Caldwell's rollicking, humorous novel, featuring eccentric Southern farmers. This work was so controversial that it was banned in Boston and New York, and the author was arrested for disseminating 'pornography.' With illustrations by Harry Schaare. Includes a special introductory note by the author. Signed by Mr. Caldwell on a leaf near front of volume. One of an unspecified number in a limited edition. --- Bound in full brown bonded leather covers with two raised bands on spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Interior leaves printed on high-quality papers. Orange silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon bookmark.
