A deluxe Franklin Library signed edition of the hefty 1956 novel by Gerald Green (1922-2006). The story is set in the world of Dr. Sam Abelman, a physician. This work was made into a 1959 movie starring Paul Muni. Signed by author on a leaf near front of volume. Includes illustrations by Fred W. Thomas. Franklin Library booklet about this work is laid in. One of an unspecified number in a limited edition. --- Bound in full brown bonded leather covers with two raised bands on spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Interior leaves printed on high-quality papers. Brown silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker.
