A deluxe Franklin Library first edition of William Safire's first novel, which is set in the White House and tells of political intrigue. Mr. Safire knew about such things, having worked in the Nixon White House as a speechwriter. With a special introductory note by the author and illustrations by George Jones. Issued as part of the publisher's First Edition Society series which preceded the Doubleday & Company trade edition. One of an unspecified number in a limited edition. --- Bound in full dark navy bonded leather covers with four raised bands on spine. Text presented on quality papers. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Blue silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- A very nice copy: bright, newish and probably unread, but with light sunning to edges of moire endpapers and slight scratches to textblock edge gilding.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (16), 535 pages
