An Everyman's Library edition presenting Frances Caldern de la Barca's description of the political, social and economic systems of Mexico in the early 19th century. The Scottish-born author married a diplomat who was posted to Mexico. These observations were made in the form of 54 letters sent to family members and weren't originally intended for publication. With an introduction by Manuel Romero de Terreros and a preface by the noted historian William H. Prescott.
