A hefty, attractive facsimile of the 1938 Nonesuch Press edition of the ninth novel by Charles Dickens. With its wide array of characters and subplots, many rank "Bleak House" among the best works of Charles Dickens. The is the story of a long, drawn-out British legal case: 'Jarndyce and Jarndyce' in the Court of Chancery, which is concerned with a deceased person who has left more than one will. The story first appeared in installments in 1852-53, published by Bradbury & Evans. Illustrated throughout with well-preserved original engraved illustrations by "Phiz" (Hablot Knight Browne). --- In light brown cloth-covered boards backed in dark brown leatherette, with titling in gilt on brown leather spine label; gilt titling on front cover, along with blindstamped oval Nonesuch device to cover. A facsimile of a turquoise cover to one of the monthly installments is included. Volume wrapped publisher's stiff paper band, which in turn is wrapped in heavy clear mylar cover. --- An about Very Good- copy with spots of soiling to textblock lower edge and scattered infrequently through the text, and with prior owner's bookplate affixed to half title page. Binding is tight and covers are clean and undamaged. Mylar wrap with mild rubbing & a few small tears to extremities.
