A reprint edition of Washington Irving's collection of stories, broken into four parts and collectively titled "Tales of a Traveller." This work was originally published under the author's pseudonym of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. in 1824. The author, per Wikipedia, was proud of these stories and was quoted as saying "I think there are in it some of the best things I have ever written." However, critics generally disapproved of them. --- In full red cloth-covered boards with author images surrounded by leaves in black to cover & spine. Gilt-stamped spine titling. Undated, but probably published in the early 1890s. --- A loosened front hinge has been repaired on this item. With conspicuous tanning to leaves and rather brittle paper, else a sound, tightly-bound copy.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; [4], 6-278 pages
