A Modern Library reprint edition of Hermann Hesse's semi-autobiographical 10th novel, originally written in German and rendered into English by Basil Creighton and revised by Walter Sorell. The story is presented as a manuscript written by the author's Harry Haller character, whose life is reminiscent of Hesse's life. Steppenwolf was first published in 1927. Mr. Hesse was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946. --- In Toledano spine 11 / rust cloth / ML hex torchbearer device blindstamped to front cover / gilt-stamped spine titling & torchbearer / tan Kent endpapers / jacket style l, verso blank.
