A handsome Heritage Press reprint edition in slipcase of Anatole France's classic 1908 satirical novel, set on a fictitious island populated by (now extinct) great auks. Translated from the French by A. W. Evans. With illustrations by Malcolm Cameron, a preface by the author and an introduction by Carl Van Doren. Sandglass leaflet not present. --- In Cameron-illustrated paper-covered boards backed in white cloth with titling and images of penguins to spine in black; all textblock edges stained in blue. Slipcase covered in blue paper. --- With soiling to spine, cover and a couple of leaves, small tear to edge of pg. 7/8; else a clean, tightly-bound copy. Slipcase with small tears and sunned edges, is otherwise structurally sound.
