Published on the occasion of its 75th year, t"he history of the club dates from the great fire of 1871. Through wars and economic depressions as well as through peace times and periods of properity, it has perservered in its self-chosen task of bringing to Chicago the best that is to be found in choral music." The Apollo chorus took part in the opening ceremonies of the Chicago Columbian Exposition of 1892, and also initated Chicago' annual Messiah tradition. It continues to this day as the Apollo Chorus of Chicago.
