Vii [1] 310 pages [1] (facsimile of the first page of the book.) Octavo, blue cloth covers with silver spine titles, and the phrase " Rose is a Rose is a Rose is a Rose" in a silver circlet on the top cover. Light gray endpapers. Some tanning at head and foot of spine. Dust jacket spine sunned/lightened, and with some creasing and light chipping. Rear panel of dust jacket is chipped at top edge near spine. Dust jacket has price of $3.50 near the bottom of front flap just above the publisher's name and address. Previous owner has glued and laid in some contemporaraneous photos / articles about Stein and Toklas in the rear. Former owner name and date on front free endpaper: Lawrence Pohle (possibly the writer). In 1998, Modern Library ranked this book as one of the 20 greatest English-language books of the 20th century. Some critics, including Jeanette Winterson, have noted that it re-interprets the autobiographical genre, creating a new literary form.
