Inscribed and signed on the front free endpaper by the author to James Thomas Harper in 1893, with a rhyming inscription. (Perhaps the James Harper of J & J Harper and Harper & Brothers, by whom Bangs was employed at the time of this book's publication.) Many of these stories were first published by Harper & Bros.
