A twelve line holograph note by Kizer: "Dear Aunt Em , here is the first issue of poetry northwest which i'm priviledged to edit - and to support at the moment! I haven't liked to ask for help until you could see the magazine, the poetry is Really first-rate- and dear old Mark gave us the cover. I do hope you approve of it. Dear Aunt Em, please be a Patron. I'll never ask for favors about anything else, and I do rather hate asking you even for this, my baby. Always with love, Carolyn." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; (32) pages; Carolyn Kizer (1925-1914) was an American poet, essayist, and editor. The founding editor of Poetry Northwest, she was involved in many literary and artistic organizations throughout her life. In addition to her work as a poet, she wrote essays and held various positions in arts organizations. Kizer's poetry earned her numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1985 for her collection "Yin". Her first marriage was to Charles Stimson Bullit, an attorney from a wealthy and influential Seattle family. This magazine from the Northwest collection of Frank S.
