348pp. 8vo; bound by Stikeman & Co. in full green morocco, spine lettered and decorated in gilt; raised bands; gilt rule on covers; top edge gilt; marbled pastedowns and endpapers. Split to two second and third free endpapers running just over halfway down from top near hinge. Split starting at same spot on subsequent half-title. Joints rubbed but firm, as are hinges. Title and text pages a little age toned. But for the odd splitting, actually an attractive copy. Mark Lemon (1809-1870), had varied career as a playwright, actor, and journalist. He and Henry Mayhew were founders and editors of Punch Magazine. Here, he takes the reader and some of the past chroniclers of the past who are preserved in older ink, arm and arm, chatting and pointing, up and down their beloved streets.
