While essentially a pattern book, it also delves deeply into the origin and purpose of each fly, and where appropriate, relates the artificial to its natural counterpart. This copy belonged to the late Dan Labbe, an ardent collector and cataloger of western fly patterns. Don was a long-time member of the GGACC in San Francisco, but he was born in Missoula MT and learned to tie flies by watching Jack Boehme tie flies. He also watched Pott hair flies being tied, and knew Paul; Bunyan. A hand-written copy of a letter from Labbe to George Grant on GGA&CC stationary is included, plus an answer to Labbe in lengthy typed & signed letter from Grant about western tyers dated Dec. 2, 1982.
