Aside from some fading to spine, this book is in wonderful condition with crispness to both pages and wraps s. Bound with three white ribbon tabs as per photo. Measures roughly 8"x10". Text is taken from a lecture delivered October 11,1978 at The Rowfant Club of Cleveland, a bibliographic organization begun in the city in the 1890's. Illustrated with photos in black and white, plus drawings, all on heavy cream paper. Of special interest is the original dustjacket for the Great Gatsby, as well as a Maxfield Parrish program cover for an 1897 Scribner Christmas dinner. Book also contains information on the publisher's distinctive colophon, the story of how Charles Scribner III came to use the desk owned by the legendary editor Maxwell Perkins and the desk's connection with Thomas Wolfe and what was unexpectedly and belatedly found in it. But the majority of the text tells the story of one of America's most important publishing firms. A must have for collectors of books about books.
