Oberlin College Bulletin; About Oberlin January, 1942

Very clean, attractive booklet with a spiral comb binding that is not cracked or broken. This issue was to inform prospective students of what to expect at Oberlin. Because it was war time though there's an article at the very front written by Oberlin president Ernest Hatch Wilkins entitled "Why Go to College in Time of War" In it he points out the many things learned there which can be applicable to military service. In fact, the college added some courses just because of the war, including nursing and auto mechanics. Oberlin is and was a liberal arts college with a highly regarded conservatory, so these extra classes were definitely due to the times. What also proves interesting are the fees. Check this out -- the average cost for men for a single term was $423.20, but for co0llege women it was $441.70. Same thing for the conservatory -- women paid more, $60-90 for a room, while men paid $50 to $65 for one. No explanation offered. The booklet is filled with black and white photographs showing all aspects of college life. Measures 5-1/2x8-1/2" and has 95 pages. Former owner's name on exterior at upper front corner.
