I love, love, LOVE these early issues of McCalls. I had some more, but sold them all at the Cleveland Book and Paper show last fall and now I'm down to just this one. But this one is a pretty thing indeed, especially those pages of fashion plates (see photo two). The format was smaller in those days, so this magazine measures just 8"x11", nowhere near the size it grew to later, especially during the 30's. Even in the early days McCall's kept true to form with articles on housekeeping, sewing, fashion, and ways for women to make money (in this issue it's millinery and hostessing). Other features are children, food and cooking, and fiction. Very attractive lay-out and lots of fun ads. One is for Postum, the coffee substitute, and is displayed in full color on the back cover.
