I have a soft spot for cookbooks printed by organizations to raise money. They range from Junior League sophistication to plain and to the point. I don't buy many of them because they take up a lot of space. But I fell for this one because I've never seen it. I assume it is trying to raise funds for the National Shrine in Washington D.C., the largest Roman Catholic shrine in the country. The group behind it appears to be from Canton, Ohio. The book is clean and nice with a small stain to the top front edge and a stubborn darkened area at top back. Pages are clean with no names or writing. Among the recipes are these: Bourbon balls (candy), the infamous Scripture cake, French Quarter bread pudding, beef and biscuit casserole, toasted coconut pie and cream of potato soup. As with most of these cookbooks, the emphasis is on comfort food --but here desserts rule! Book measures 7"x9" and has 174 pages.
