This hand-colored card is charming with its muted tones and the fact that there are people in it. I have seen this place on several cards, but never with travelers ready to check in to take the medicinal waters. The spring is natural and was discovered in 1880 located about 30 miles from Kansas City. By the time this card was made the area was booming -- lots of hotels ready to go and some still being built. The card was sent to Clara Bengmann in Concordia, Missouri from her father A. Bengmann who wrote, "I am well. Your Pa, A. Bengmann." The card was postmarked in Excelsior Springs in 1908. The back of the card appears to have creases but it doesn't. I think it was in an album which protected the corners from toning which the rest of back did. The differentiation of color is what caused it to look creased. The card will arrive in a brand new plastic sleeve.
