These are private mailing cards which have not been used. The back of the cards indicate that they were "Private Mailing Cards" which were authorized by Act of Congress May 19, 1898 and continued through 1901. After that the buzzword was "postcard." The reason these were called Private Mailing Cards is because the government couldn't create enough new images to make the citizens happy, so private printers were allowed to print their own, as long as they maintained the authorization on the back. The house is the McKinley family homed located in Canton, Ohio. The second card shows the pallbearers lifting McKinley's casket into the funeral car at the Depot in Canton, Ohio. Both will arrive in plastic sleeves.
