Book is number eleven in the Altemus Dainty series, but is definitely a stand-alone title, as the books were sold individually and have no real bearing on one another. George Manville Fenn penned almost 200 action/adventure stories for boys and was enormously popular in his day. What's interesting about the Dainty series is how finely made the books are. This one is bound in half white vellum with a beautiful illumination running down the length of the book next to the spine which is also also next to strikingly beautiful art. Also remarkable is the existence of the dustjacket. Though not perfect, it's still pretty nice and will arrive in brand new mylar. The book is illustrated with half-tones throughout and measures 6-1/2"x8". As you can see from one of the photos, the former owner's name is blacked out (unfortunate), but what is so charming is the inscription which reads,"With best wishes from your teacher Miss Delores Haines." Clearly, the recipient treasured the book, as it is immaculate.
