Small, slim softcover bound in French wraps. Deluxe Edition; A privately published book of poetry by the American poet and publisher James Laughlin (1914-1997). Initialed by Laughlin on the front free end-paper. Cover is very lightly sunned around edges. Slight bump to spine, resulting in a minor dent. Printed at the Stinehour Press, 1988, in an edition limited to 150 copies. Laughlin - an American poet and literary book publisher who founded New Directions Publishing - was briefly an American expatriate in Europe between the wars, where he famously toured with Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, and later stayed with Ezra Pound in Rapallo. It was Pound who suggested that Laughlin give up writing poetry for something more useful - perhaps publishing!
