Max Thorek was a Chicago surgeon and a leading pictorialist photographer in the decades between world wars. He was a member of many photographic clubs, societies, and salons of the period. His archive of creative photographs was acquired by The Brooklyn Museum. Included in the text of this book are Dr. Thorek's essays and comments on methods, techniques, composition, materials, chemistry and other technical concerns as well as reflections on camera clubs, aesthetics, and photography as an art.
