Part I: David Part II: Creation Part III: Virtue Part IV: Adoration Part V: Creation and Redemption American composer William Albright is especially known for his works for organ and piano, although he has written for many instruments. His music has been performed by many major symphony orchestras. In this work, he sets the poetry of Christopher Smart, whose poetry also served as the libretto for Britten's "Rejoice in the Lamb." Composed in 1983, "A Song to David" receives its first recording here. Christopher Smart was a Georgian poet. Many critics and scholars believe that much of Song to David was written by Smart while he was committed to St Luke's Hospital for Lunatics, and later confined to Mr. Potter's private asylum. Robert Browning later remarked that A Song to David was great because Smart was mad, and that the poem allowed him to rank alongside of Milton and Keats.
