Abacus paperback, 1972. 157 pages, illustrated (plus 8-page glossy section of black & white photographs of Gaudier-Brzeska and his sculptures.) Rear cover still photograph (color) from the film which featured Scott Antony as Henri Gaudier. The covers are rubbed, with light wear to corners and edges. The text block is tanned (as about usual for this title.) The stamp of Shakespeare & Company (Paris) graces the half-title page. All in all, a good reading copy of this movie-related edition. Ede bought a sizeable portion of Gaudier-Brzeska's work from Sophie Brzeska's estate after she died intestate. Her estate included numerous letters sent between Henri and Sophie. Ede used these as the basis for his book Savage Messiah on the life and work of Gaudier-Brzeska, which in turn became the basis of Ken Russell's film of the same name. The conclusion of the film peruses many of his sculptures and fully demonstrates what great art he produced in his short lifetime.
