Bright orange cloth stamped in black, green topstain, under jacket illustrated by William Gropper, 330 pp. + ads. Small chip to front edge of jacket, minor toning to spine panel. Fine/Very good. Tully fled an orphanage to live an early life as a hobo. In his twenties, he found himself in Hollywood and became one of the first writers to cover the film scene there. At the same time, he wrote about his experiences on the road and in circuses. Shadows of Men is specifically about men in jail, where men receive the education of the underworld and go forth in the spirit of vengeance. It offers more portrayal of Blacks experiences than other books in our hobo catalog.
