Nineteenth printing. Purple cloth with blue metallic lettering, 310 pp. Original artwork signed by Jack Micheline on front endpaper. The previous owner has written on the rear endpaper: Purchased from Jack on the street in front of Maelstrom Books. Very good/Very good. Laid in is a fine copy of "Blue Nose was 50-1" inscribed with a sketch by Micheline. Micheline named himself Jack after Jack London, was inspired by Vachel Lindsay, and was friends with Jack Kerouac; all three authors are represented in this catalog. Although Micheline thought the label Beat was pure media hype, he was one of the original group of Beats, and experimented with poetry, art, prose, and who knows what else. 'On the Road' is the outstanding book of the Beats, and it introduced a new generation to a nomadic style of living that rejected mainstream culture. It is fitting that this copy was purchased on the street from the artist.
