Typescript, sheets bound by single clasp, 12-3/4" x 8", 16 pp. Underline & question mark to "Transmission" date, rusty clasp, some wrinkling to last page. First page shows rehearsal, recording, and transmission times, along with the cast: Jeffrey Segal, Manning Wilson, Anthony Viccars, Harold Young Michael Shepley, Dorothy Holmes-Gore, and Leigh Crutchley. Lance Sieveking was drama script editor for BBC for ten years. Although he retired in 1956, this play was produced in late 1958, so I'm not sure how absolute that retirement was. According to C.R. Benstead, "it has been argued that the production of the first television play springs from his ingenuity." First published in 1894, "A Deal in Ostriches" has been reprinted several times, including in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine in 1951 which might have inspired this radio play.
