Blue & white cloth boards, 9-3/4" x 7", 229 pp. Limited edition, signed by Rockwell Kent at colophon. Minor toning to spine panel, one small blemish to front cover, attractive bookplate inside front cover, lacks slipcase. Still, a nice copy of a classic & a Rockwell Kent signature. Part fantasy, part satire, this is also one of the first novels to think about a technological dystopia. The following sentence is right out of The Matrix: "The air we breathe is hardly more necessary to our animal life than the use of any machine.is to our civilization; it is the machines which act upon man and make him man, as much as man who has acted upon and made machines; but we must choose between the alternative of undergoing much present suffering, or seeing ourselves gradually superseded by our own creatures, till we rank no higher in comparison with them, than the beasts of the field with ourselves." (p. 189)
