Hardcover with the scarce DJ, 1942 Stated First Printing Random House 545 pages. Very Good, in a VG DJ. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to beige cloth with brown titles and gilt accents-corners bumped and cloth is a bit dusty. Moderate shelf/edge wear to clipped DJ-now in mylar. No previous owner markings, no notes-all pages are clean and crisp-map end papers with a touch of off-setting. Very Scarce in DJ. Cecil Brown (September 14, 1907 October 25, 1987) was a war correspondent who worked closely with Edward R. Murrow during World War II. His experiences and dealings with Italian, British, and other censorship authorities led him to write Suez to Singapore. His criticism of the British in Singapore caused him to have his "war correspondent" credentials revoked and made him a persona non grata. He narrowly escaped from Singapore before its fall to the Japanese. He was part of a larger group of reporters known as Murrow's Boys. Covers Rommel in the desert as well as the guerrilla war in Malaysia with a special chapter on the sinking of the Repulse and the prince of Wales in the South China seas. LOC SSE-05
