Vintage Hardcover with scarce DJ, First Edition 1950 The Ring Book Shop, Inc New York 128 pages. Very Good, in a Good+ DJ. Minor shelf/edge wear to black cloth boards with white titles - corners lightly bumped. Moderate shelf/edge wear, dust soiling, one large chip to back panel and a spine abrasion to original scarce DJ - now in mylar. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked with toning to all text pages. This book is a compilation of previously published articles appearing in serial form in Ring magazine in 1949 and 1950 and published in book form here for the first time. 8 chapters and 48 B&W illustrations of which 43 are vintage photographs of boxers, some in action and a few are of Joe Lewis. The Story of Mike Jacobs (and also Joe Lewis), world famous boxing promotor who staged more than 60 world championship fights and invented the chain store system of boxing promotion. Rickard had Dempsey and Jacobs had Joe Lewis. Michael Strauss Jacobs (March 17, 1880 January 1953) was a boxing promoter, arguably the most powerful in the sport from the mid-1930s until his effective retirement in 1946. He was posthumously elected to the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1982, and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990. A very handsome First Edition in the scarce DJ. LOC SSS-04
