Vintage 2 volume softcover First Edition set rebound in Red Leather as a one volume hardcover, (with the big fold-out map intact from the 2nd volume), Volume One, 1955, First Edition, Published by Mexico. Editorial Cultura, 448 pages. Volume Two, 1957, First Edition, Published by Mexico. Editorial Cultura. 1957, 244 pages followed by a 3 page bibliography and a 2 page index. NOTE: THE TEXT IS IN SPANISH, NO ENGLISH. Very thorough and complete work by the Swiss anthropologist and photographer Duby and the Danish anthropologist Frans Blom about the indigenous Lacandon Maya people of Mexico. Both softcover volumes beautifully rebound in Red Leather as one hardcover volume with gilt spine titles and accents - corners sharp with a touch of wear to the tips. TEG (Top Edge Gilt). Red patterned endpapers. Only flaws are the spine has faded slightly, some minor shelf/edge wear and the title page of Volume One has a smudge. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked with the above exception. The bottom left inside edge of the front board has a name stamped in gilt - MILLOUD (IN CAPS) followed by three triangles atop one another. I don't know if this the previous owner or the binder (I suspect it is the binder but I can't be sure) but it is a nice quality touch. Enormous fold-out map at the rear of the book. Frans Blom (9 August 1893 23 June 1963) was a Danish explorer and archaeologist. He was most associated with his research of the Maya civilization of Mexico and Central America. Gertrude "Trudi" Duby Blom (born Gertrude Elisabeth Lrtscher; July 7, 1901 December 23, 1993) was a Swiss journalist, social anthropologist, and documentary photographer who spent five decades chronicling the Mayan cultures of Chiapas, Mexico, particularly the culture of the Lacandon Maya.A beautiful First Edition Softcover Set (WITH ALL SPANISH TEXT) rebound in Red leather as a one volume Hardcover.LOC
