In his introduction to this book, 'Forever & the Earth: A Radio Dramatization," Ray Bradbury declares . "Thomas Wolfe's book'The Web & the Rock.'. .fell on me like an avalanche. . . Norman Corwin's radio broadcast of bits & pieces of Thomas Wolfe, narrated by Charles Laughton, with a score by Bernard Herrmann. . .fell on me like a shower of meteors. My dream one day was to work with Corwin." F&TE was originally published as a short story in Planet Stories, Spring, 1950. Norman Corwin suggested that Bradbury develop something that he could dramatize on his radio program, and in 1977, Corwin & Bradbury recorded the radio production of F&TE. Unfortunately the production didn't find any commercial buyers, and this printed version is all that remains. . . I wonder where the original radio tapings went! An as new copy, limited to 300 numbered, copies, signed by Bradbury upon tissue paper. Issued in a glassine dust-wrapper, meant to be discarded. A handsome little volume designed by noted bookman Richard Bigus, printed by Thomas-Shore, bound in 1/4 cloth by John H. Dekker & Sons; all practioners of the book maker's art.
