Eleven page booklet by Moskowitz relating his attending a lecture event on Peace, sponsored by the National Council of the Arts & Sciences, featuring The Cultural and Scientific Council for Peace. Among those members of The Cultural & Scientific Council for Peace, was Olaf Stapledon and russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich. The event was condemned by the State Department as communist, and all the Eastern European visas were cancelled and Shostakovich was sent home. Stapledon did eventually speak, stating "I am not a Communist, I am not a Christian, I am just me! I am however, a Socialist." Stapledon was one of Moskowitz's great heroes, and was especially isappointed in Stapledon's brief speech, as he states, "Despite his many excellent volumes of philosophy to fall back on, in this crises he had no answer, practical or philosophical, to contribute to its solution." Moskowiwtz had penned a letter to the Waldorf Astoria, where Stapledon was staying, inviting him to attend the end of year meeting of ESFA, the Eastern Science Fiction Association, to which Moskowitz was president. Stapledon received the reply, "Dear Mr. Moskowitz, I must apologize profoundly for my delay in replying to your kind invitation to the meeting and to dinner on Sunday next. It would've pleased me very much, but unfortunately I have to be in Boston on that evening to lecture, and must respectfully refuse." A very rare booklet. From the Roy A. Squires collection. Fine condition. Listing Box 1.
